Title
Medieval Harness Fitting
Description
English: A fragment from a medieval copper alloy casket mount or harness pendant dating from the 12th to 13th centuries AD. The object is hexafoil in shape with an open circle in the centre. It has broken at a point at which two thin projections extend from the main body of the object. These projections may be part of an attachment loop or a further open work section of the object. Not enough of the object survives for a secure identification. It was clearly ornate however, as evidenced by the presence of gilding, which survives in the grooves between the petals. The object measures approximately 23.5mm long, 18mm wide and 1.09mm thick.
