Medieval Frame and Plate Buckle (back)
Description
English: Copper alloy oval lipped frame with attached sheet metal plate. The bar of the frame is offset and narrowed. The plate is of sheet copper alloy folded over the bar to form a front and back plate. The plates are of tapering rectilinear shape, notched for the frame. It has a rectangular notch for the pin. There are four rivet holes (two at each end. The front plate is decorated with a repousse zoomorphic design - four legs and a raised head and tail - on a field of dots. There are traces of gilt on the plate.
