Title |
Medieval D-shaped buckle |
||
Description |
English: A medieval copper-alloy buckle. D-shaped buckle probably dating from the mid 13th to early 15th century AD. The loop measures 24.4mm high by 18.3mm wide and 3.9mm thick. It has a flattened upper and lower surface and a bevelled inner edge. The outer part of the frame has moulded decoration consisting of two pairs of transverse ridges. These sit above and below the pin recess where the frame also comes to a point. The pin is of copper-alloy wire and is complete and intact. The plate is folded around the axis bar and is rectangular in shape. It measures 28.4mm long by 17.6mm wide and 0.3mm thick. The rear side of the plate is slightly damaged. There are four rivet holes, located one at each corner of the plate. The two nearest the loop still contain the copper-alloy rivets, with the lower one also having a copper-alloy stop on the reverse. Overall, the buckle measures 42.7mm long by 4.6mm thick and weighs 6.75g. |
