Medieval Coin: Penny of Henry III
Description
English: A complete silver hammered penny of Henry III (AD1216-1272). The coin is a Class IIIc dating from AD 1248-1250. The moneyer is Willem at Winchester. The obverse shows a forward facing crowned bust with pellets in the hair. Obverse inscription reads hENIC[]. The reverse shows a voided long cross with a pellet at the centre and three pellets in each quarter. Reverse legend reads WIL/LEM/ONW/INC. Diameter: 18.43mm. Thickness: 0.71mm. Weight: 1.3g. Die axis: 2 o'clock.
