Title |
Medieval Buckle Pin |
||
Description |
English: Complete cast copper-alloy pin of Medieval date. The pin consists of a tapered strip of copper-alloy which is folded over, and possibly soldered, at one end to form the attachment loop. The loop is sub-rectangular in form. The pin is rectangular in section. The front of the pin, just below the loop, is decorated with three punched annulets roughly arranged in a triangle (also known as 'ring and dot' decoration). the pin has a deep green patina which has been lost in patches to reveal a reddish brown colouration. The pin is large and quite heavy duty in construction and therefore might be deemed more likely to be for a buckle than a brooch although it could have been used for a heavy cloak or cape. See YORYM-766AA7 for a similar find deemed to be a buckle fitting and FAKL-C68E56 for a more complete example deemed to be a brooch. This pin is dated c.1200-1400. |
