Title |
Medieval Buckle Pin |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy buckle pin of Medieval date. It has a shaft that is square in section with very rounded edges, tapering to a curved point at the base. At the top of the shaft is a transverse moulded ridge that is rectangular in plan. Above the ridge is the oval shaped suspension loop, which is oval shaped in section but does not fully curve around to meet the shaft and thus leaves the loop open at its base. The pin is worn and corroded but has traces of a dark green patina. It measures 43.63mm in length, 4.52mm in width, 4.46mm in thickness, and weighs 4.06g. This pin is from a buckle of Medieval date, with similar examples from London (Egan and Pritchard, 1991: nos. 541-549) indicating a date in the 14th century AD. |
