Title
Medieval Buckle Pin
Description
English: A slightly worn cast copper-alloy pin now independent of its frame, probably from a medieval buckle. The loop is complete suggesting that the buckle (or possibly brooch) was the element which broke. There is a rectangular ridge (grip) on the obverse face at the junction of loop and shaft. The size of this object, including its thickness, points to this being an example of a buckle pin as opposed to a brooch pin. Further detail, such as whether or not the grip was incised or the precise nature of the tip (which could be cutaway), is uncertain as the record provided only shows the artefact in profile (see notes, below). Other examples can be found illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 115; fig. 75) dating to the 13th or 14th centuries.
