Medieval Buckle
Description
English: Copper alloy and textile buckle. Cast single looped buckle frame with a slightly pointed and bevelled outer edge with a sub-rectangular sheet metal plate of thickness 0.6mm wrapped around a separate strap bar with burred ends, and secured by a rivet of diameter 1.8mm and length c.3mm which passes through its inner end. A drawn wire pin passes through a central slot in the plate. Traces of vertical file marks appear on the buckle frame and on the back part of the buckle plate. Fibrous textile of an off-white hue is trapped between the leaves of the buckle plate. Suggested date: Medieval, 1300-1400.
