Title
Medieval Buckle
Description
English: A large asymmetrical copper alloy buckle with central bar dateable to 1400-1450 AD. The smaller loop is rectangular and the larger one is oval with a notch for the pin to rest on. The bar is narrowed in the centre to accommodate the missing pin. The buckle is 26.25mm long, 32.25mm wide, 3.38mm thick and weighs 6.03g. An almost identical buckle was excavated from the Trig Lane site on London's waterfront in 1974. This buckle was dated from 1400-1450 AD (Egan & Pritchard, 1991, 102-3).
