Title |
Medieval Buckle |
||
Description |
English: A small copper alloy buckle with simple single loop frame and integral plate. The iron pin is present but very badly corroded and bent back on itself, in fact the entire buckle is badly corroded. The plate measures 13.68mm wide and 28.15mm long up to the point at which it is broken. At this point there is the remains of a small circular hole. The loop is approximately oval in shape with a thin, flattened oval cross section. The loop measures 27.82mm wide, 20.88mm long and 1.88mm-2.44mm thick. The total length of the buckle and plate is 46.59mm. It is likely that the buckle originally took the form of two oval loops with an integral plate between. This form is distinctive of the late 13th and 14th centuries (Egan & Pritchard, 2002, 109) |
