Title
Medieval Bar Mount
Description
English: A nearly complete cast copper-alloy Medieval bar mount dating to the 14th century AD. The mount is almost complete as only one of the two separate rivets which would have attached the mount to a strap is missing. The mount is formed of a central sub-oval body, from which two sub-oval terminal lobes extend. All are hemispherical in section, with a concave indentation to the underside in the centre of each lobe; the central indentation is smaller and less pronounced than in the terminals. The upper surface of the central oval lobe is undecorated and smooth. The terminal lobes are pierced by a central circular aperture to hold rivets for attachment; one circular in section copper-alloy rivet is retained in situ. This artefact has a dark green colour overall, and several similar examples can be seen in Read (2001: 23, fig 12, nos. 146-156).

This mount measures 15.7mm in length, with a width of 8mm and a thickness of 3.1mm. It weighs 0.98 grams.
