Title
Medieval : buckle
Description
English: Complete medieval copper-alloy single-looped sub-rectangular buckle with attached single-sheet buckle-plate dating to the period c.1350 - 1400 AD. The buckle-frame has a wide lip and convex sides. A flat copper-alloy pin remains coiled around the strap bar. Also coiled around the strap bar is a copper-alloy single-sheet buckle plate, the two ends of which are joined by means of a copper-alloy rivet. The buckle frame and pin have a dark green-brown patina and the sheet plate and rivet have a light green patina due to corrosion of the copper-alloy. Whitehead gives a date range of c. 1350 - 1400 AD for this type of buckle. The length of the buckle is 35.86mm, the maximum width of the buckle is 11.41mm and the maximum thickness of the buckle is 2.49mm. The weight of the buckle is 2.50g.
