Title
Medieval : Purse frame fragment
Description
English: A fragment of a late medieval purse frame, cast in copper alloy.

The frame has an L-shaped cross-section and is bent. On the outer surface of the L-shape on one side is a continuous incised floral design. On the other surface of the L-shaped frame, three holes have been drilled into the frame, presumably for attachment purposes. The holes are shaped out along the length of the frame. Corroded iron remains are visible in one small area. This fragment of frame would have hung down from the purse bar, with a second frame next to it. The metal is pitted and is a light greyish-green colour.

Similar purse frames can be seen in the Medieval Catalogue (1967), Plate XXXIV.
