Medieval : Papal Bulla of Pope Alexander VI
Description
English: A cast lead Papal Bulla of Pope Alexander VI. The obverse of the bulla is stamped with the faces of the saints Peter and Paul within beaded borders.

The reverse is stamped with ALE//XANDER//PAPA VI.
Alexander VI was Pope from 1492-1503.
Papal Bulla such as this would have acted as seals on official Papal documents to authenticate their provenance and authority.

The metal is a mid brownish-white colour and is worn and pitted. The bulla is 38.1mm in diameter, 5.3mm thick and weighs 35.3g.
