Title
Medieval : Harness pendant
Description
English: An unusual form of a cast copper alloy shield-shaped harness pendant with remnants of gilding surviving on the surface. The pendant consists of a shield shaped plate of copper-alloy, with no suspension loop. The pendant is decorated with an embossed rectangle, which has been further decorated with two stars. Each star has six points. There is a square sectioned bar or arm extending out of the left of the pendant, it has been cast integrally. The terminal of the bar is stepped, as it has a narrower section. The surface of the pendant is heavily corroded, therefore resulting in the lose of much of the original surface. This type of harness pendant date to the medieval period and are circa late 13th – 14th century in date.
