Title
Medieval: Strap fitting
Description
English: A cast copper alloy pentagonal strap fitting, a wide hooked terminal, with a broken hook on the apex. The fitting has a separate backing plate and six rivets secure the backing plate to the strap. The fitting has a very worn decorative panel on one side and there is a worn white metal coating on both sides. Little can be made out of the nature of the decorative panel.

The date of this fitting is not clear. The method of attachment of the strap in which the strap is inserted into a hollow 'box' and secured with rivets is reminiscent of 'lyre-shaped' buckles and strap ends of the 15th century, to which period this object may belong.
