Title
Medieval: Ring
Description
English: Cast copper alloy ring of probable Roman - Modern date (50 - 1800). The ring is broadly circular in plan (with faceted edges) and is rectangular in cross section. There is no obvious cast or incised decoration present. The external surface is black / dark green in places and this may suggest that it has been treated with linseed oil. The ring is an abraded dusty grey-green colour with a relatively poorly preserved patchy dark green patina. The patination of the metal would suggest a medievaldate. The function of the ring is varied; it is worn, a direct use cannot be attributed.

The ring measures 26.7mm in diameter, the frame is 4.9mm wide, and is 3.3mm thick. The internal diameter is 17.9mm. The ring weighs 7.93 grams.
