Medieval: Ceramic Vessel
Description
English: Ten (10) sherds, weighing 70.7grams, from of a wheelthrown ceramic vessel. These sherds consist of two (2) rimsherds, one (1) basesherd, and seven (7) bodysherds.

All ten (10) sherds have a fabric similar to that described as SAND1 in Ratkai 2000, p85. It consists of a glazed sandy ware, a regional type of jugs, found in Herefordshire and Shropshire, with a main concentration in Worcestershire and Staffordshire. This fabric probably dates from late 12th to late 13th centuries (c.1180 to c.1280).

The rims and bases have been photographed separately, the bodysherds have been photographed as a group.

Sherd 1: Rimsherd. Flattened thumb pinched. Rim diameter 16cm, percentage present 6%. Firing conditions: oxidised exterior, unoxidised core, oxidised interior. Dimensions: 27.21mm length, 36.85mm width, 6.27mm thick, 8.7 grams weight.
Sherd 2: Rimsherd. Flattened rim with internal ridge. Rim diameter 13cm, percentage present 5%. Firing conditions: oxidised exterior, unoxidised core, oxidised interior. Dimensions: 24.24mm length, 29.81mm width, 6.49mm thick, 8.0 grams weight.
Sherd 3: Basesherd. FLT (Flat). Base diameter 20cm, percentage present 4%. Firing conditions: unoxidised exterior, unoxidised core, oxidised interior. Dimensions: 41.44mm length, 41.43mm width, 9.19mm thick, 18.2 grams weight.
Sherd 4: Bodysherd. Firing conditions: oxidised exterior, unoxidised core, oxidised interior. Dimensions: 13.52mm length, 21.34mm width, 6.37mm thick, 2.0 grams weight.
Sherd 5: Bodysherd. Firing conditions: oxidised exterior, unoxidised core, oxidised interior. Dimensions: 29.41mm length, 35.40mm width, 6.05mm thick, 6.8 grams weight.
Sherd 6: Bodysherd. Firing conditions: oxidised exterior, unoxidised core, oxidised interior. Dimensions: 20.23mm length, 26.51mm width, 6.55mm thick, 3.1 grams weight.
Sherd 7: Bodysherd. Firing conditions: oxidised exterior, unoxidised core, oxidised interior. Dimensions: 27.26mm length, 44.99mm width, 6.50mm thick, 9.3 grams weight.
Sherd 8: Bodysherd. Firing conditions: oxidised exterior, unoxidised core, oxidised interior. Dimensions: 27.54mm length, 36.21mm width, 6.75mm thick, 7.5 grams weight.
Sherd 9: Bodysherd. Firing conditions: oxidised exterior, unoxidised core, oxidised interior. Dimensions: 22.46mm length, 25.84mm width, 5.88mm thick, 4.3 grams weight.
Sherd 10: Bodysherd. Firing conditions: oxidised exterior, unoxidised core, oxidised interior. Dimensions: 19.31mm length, 34.14mm width, 3.68mm thick, 2.8 grams weight.
