ANEURYSM OF THE THORACIC AORTA A Report of Forty-Five Cases Treated in TheRoosevelt Hospital By DAVENPORT WEST, M.D., ASSISTANT VISITING PHYSICIAN, THE ROOSEVELT HOSPITAL Forty-five cases of aneurysm of the thoracic aortahave been recorded during the last five years—1910 to1915. Only 7 of these patients were women; 38 weremen. Twenty-four were born in the United States.Twelve were negroes. The youngest patient was 24years; the oldest 67. Thirty-three per cent were betweenthe ages of 30 and 40 years, 20 per cent between theforty-eighth and fifty-third year. Manual labor wasthe occupation of one-third of the cases. Twelve died inthe hospital, a death-rate of about 25 per cent. Eighteen cases gave a positive history of syphilis;16 gave a positive Wassermann reaction; 11 gave anegative reaction.
