292 A REPORT UPON MALIGNANT ENDOCARDITIS. drank some beer; she caught cold, and on the following day had pain inabdomen and left side; vomited a number of times and was troubledwith diarrhoea. Diarrhoea lasted four days and then subsided. Shehas vomited every day, and once the vomitus contained a little blood.She has had several chills each day. Cough has been present withpain in left side, but no expectoration. Headache has been persistent. Physical Examination.—August 12. Heart: Apex is in fifth space,four and one-half inches to left of midsternal line; action is regular andof good force. There is a soft, systolic murmur at apex transmitted toleft, and some accentuation of pulmonic second sound. Pulse isregular, full; no increase of tension, no thickening. Lungs: Normal.Liver : Normal. Spleen : Percusses a little large; edge is not felt. On Admission, pulse, 120; respiration, 45; temperature, 105° F.Urine: Amber; specific gravity, 1020; acid; sugar, none; albumin, atrace. Microsc
