Title
Medeival buckle
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy medieval oval buckle dating from c.1330-1400 with integral forked spacer, the composite plates are missing. The buckle frame is oval shaped, on the outer edge is a central triangular lip, in the centre of this is a shallow groove where the pin rests. The inside of the frame is bevelled, and it is sub triangular in cross section. The two prongs of the forked spacer project from the pin bar, the points of which are now worn and broken. There is a raised collar where the forked spacer begins. There is a central notch inbetween the the two prongs where the sheet pin sits. This consists of a piece of copper alloy that is wrapped round the pin bar, and narrows to a point. There is no decoration on the buckle, and it is a green brown colour. It measures 25.6mm in length,21.7mm in width and 2.8mm in thickness. It weighs 2.87g.

Similar examples can be seen in Egan and Pritchard 1991, page 79, numbers 322-324.
