Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A silver medal awarded to Matthew Tubman for winning East Benton Colliery, Newcastle on Tyne, 1786. It commemorates that it took two years to sink 95 fathoms. The design shows colliery buildings and equipment including a beam engine. The original at the British Museum is not the medal, but a print by Thomas Bewick of a rubbing, hence is in mirror writing. It has been restored by the uploader by digital flipping.
