Notes Souvenir iron cross with names of towns bombed by Germany in 1914, WW1 During the early months of the war a series of similar 'iron crosses' were produced for fundraising and propaganda purposes. The design parodied the German iron cross decoration, and in this example drew attention to the towns which had suffered atrocities during Germany's destructive progress through France and Belgium during August-October, 1914. references- a) http-www.debenhamfamilyhistory.org.uk-propagandaironcross.htm b) http-www.worthpoint.com-worthopedia-ww1-british-german-iron-cross-medal-426522709
