Notes | Grand Lodge of Ancient and Accepted Masons of NZ - 50 Years Service Medal of Alton Clive Johns, Auckland. Following World War One Alton Clive Johns of Auckland became involved in a number of Masonic organisations. "Clive had also joined the United Service Lodge No 10, 24th November 1926, and was Treasurer from 1942-53; joined the Maungawhau Lodge No 168, 1957, Ponsonby Kilwining Chapter 27 July 1942, resigned 1953 to join Mt Eden RA Chapter July 1952, Coronation RCC Chapter No 66, June 1941." (Brent Mackrell research notes) Alton Clive Johns (1893-1985) WW1- Served with the Wellington Regiment, on the Western Front and was twice wounded. His brother William Henwood Johns was killed in action in Palestine in 1917. Post war- AC Johns ran a radio manufacturing business in Auckland and for a period ran a private radio station. He also served on a number of community boards and was Mayor of Mt Eden from 1950-1959. His interests included sports and he was Captain of the first NZ Hockey Team, and became an Auckland tennis representative. In 1977 he was awarded the Queen's Service Order (Companion) for his public service. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
