Notes | Serbian Order of St. Sava, post-1903 (Min) The Order of St. Sava was instituted by King Milan I on 23 January 1883. The Order was named after the Archbishop St. Sava, from the Royal House of Nemanjic, who died at the beginning of the thirteenth century. In 1903 King Peter I of Serbia altered the reverse of the medal to include the date 1883 replacing the previous cypher of King Milan. The date also related to the proclamation of the Kingdom of Serbia (1882). Originally intended to recognise meritorious achievements of civilians, in 1914 military personnel also qualified for this honour for military merit. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
