English: The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Companion (Military), breast badge (CB) on medal ribbon (pre 1917) gold Maltese Cross with eight points enamelled white, each point tipped with a small gold ball, and gold lions between the arms of the cross; at the centre of the cross a device comprising a rose, a thistle and shamrock issuing from a golden sceptre supporting three imperial crowns; encircled by a red enamel band with the motto TRIA JUNCTA IN UNO (three joined in one) in gold lettering; circle within two laurel branches in green enamel with a blue enamel scroll below with the motto ICH DIEN in gold suspension clasp- gold ring and straight bar; crimson ribbon; gold buckle at top of ribbon

Supplement to the London Gazette of 1st June, dated 2nd June 1877. "War Office, June 2, 1877. THE Queen has been graciously pleased, on the occasion of the celebration of Her Majesty's Birthday, to give orders for the following promotions in, and appointments to, the Most Honourable Order of the Bath - "To be Ordinary Members of the Military Division of the Third Class, or Companions of the said Most Honourable Order; viz. -— - Captain William Horton, R.N." .
