Notes | Long and Efficient Service medal (miniature) (VR) Awarded to Major Arthur Morrow, Unattached Active List, New Zealand Volunteers Arthur Morrow was on the New Zealand Volunteers Unattached Active List from 30 December1889 until 25 April 1896 when he transferred to the Honorary Unattached List. Arthur Morrow (1842-1937) was born in County Longford, Ireland on 11 November 1842. He was educated privately and at the Military Academy, Dublin, for the Royal Marine Artillery. He arrived in Auckland on 9 June 1861 and joined the Survey Department. Ont 16 May 1863 joined the No. 1 Royal Company Volunteers. Served during the New Zealand Wars as a private with No 3 Coy (Parnell), Auckland Volunteer Rifle Brigade. He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 4th May 1871 and later rose to the rank of Colonel. He was awarded the New Zealand Medal, Volunteer Decoration (V.D.) and the Officers Long Service Medal. He also won the Campbell Champion Belt for rifle shooting four times, and a medal as best shot in the Auckland Province. In 1877 he married Mariamne Buckland. He served on District Staff for 20 years and commanded the escort to the Prince of Wales (later George V) at Rotorua in 1901. Arthur Morrow died in 1937.
