English: New Zealand Medal, New Zealand Wars (1860-1872) undated Medal awarded to John Sanderson, New Zealand Armed Constabulary, 4th Division circular silver medal; straight ornamental (fern fronds) swiveling suspender; with ribbon obverse- diademed head of Queen Victoria with a veil covering the back of her head; around the head is the legend- VICTORIA - D - G - BRITT - REG - F - D reverse- at centre a laurel wreath; above and below are the words- NEW ZEALAND - VIRTUTIS HONOR (Honour of Valour) ribbon- dark blue with a red stripe (10mm wide) down centre named in small block capitals on edge- JOHN SANDERSON. NO. 4 DIV. A.C. FORCE

Notes New Zealand Medal (1860-1872) undated, New Zealand Wars Medal awarded to John Sanderson, New Zealand Armed Constabulary, 4th Division (10-11-1868-8-12-1871) He also served with the 3rd Waikato Regiment (joined in Auckland 23-12-1863), and his medal claim included his service with the 3rd Waikato Regiment at Rangiaowhia on 21-2-1864, and with the 4th Division New Zealand Armed Constabulary at Ahikereru, Tatahoata, Ruatahuna 5-1869, (Urewera Campaign). John Sanderson was born at Carlisle, Northumberland in 1843. he came to New Zealand on the Helvelyn in November 1862, occupation, labourer. He died on 6th November 1927 and was buried at Waikaraka Park, Auckland. Medal claim- Auckland;Gazette 1871; John Sanderson lodged two separate claims for the New Zealand Medal. At the time of his first claim in 1873 his address was "Waikato". His second claim was lodged from Oteao Gum Town, via Mercury Bay. referencse- Richard Stowers, New Zealand Medal to Colonials
