English: New Zealand Medal, New Zealand Wars (1860-1872) undated Medal awarded to Captain Walter John Morrison, Taranaki Militia. circular silver medal; straight ornamental (fern fronds) swiveling suspender; ribbon 1995-1996- ribbon missing obverse- diademed head of Queen Victoria with a veil covering the back of her head; around the head is the legend- VICTORIA - D - G - BRITT - REG - F - D reverse- at centre a laurel wreath; above and below are the words- NEW ZEALAND - VIRTUTIS HONOR (Honour of Valour) ribbon- dark blue with a red stripe (10mm wide) down centre named on edge in block capitals- CAPT. W. MORRISON, TARANAKI MIL.

Notes New Zealand Medal, New Zealand Wars (1860-1872) undated Medal awarded to Captain Walter John Morrison, Taranaki Militia. Walter Morrison (born 1830Great Nash, Pembroke), was appointed to the rank of Captain, Taranaki Militia, on 4th December 1862. He had also served with No 5 Coy. Taranaki Military Settlers. He saw action at Mahoetahi on 6-11-1860. He died in 1874 Medal claim details address at time of claim- Wanganui; medal gazetted in 1871; medal reference 1413; Archives New Zealand file- AD32-3575 reference- Richard Stowers, New Zealand Medal to Colonials
