English: China War Medal 1842 - 5th July 1840 to 29th August 1842 Medal awarded to Joseph James, Royal Marines circular silver medal with ribbon; straight nickel silver suspender obverse- diademed head of Queen Victoria with legend- VICTORIA REGINA reverse- under a palm tree a collection of war trophies (cannon, flags) with Royal Arms on oval shield at centre; inscription above- ARMIS EXPOSCERE PACEM (They demanded peace by force of arms); in exergue the word CHINA above date 1842 ribbon- central crimson band and yellow edges named on edge- JOSEPH JAMES, ROYAL MARINES
