English: Khedive's Sudan Medal 1896-1908 Medal awarded to 5120 (.) Corpl. J. Isherwood, 2nd Lancashire Fusiliers silver and bronze medal; plain straight swivelling suspension bar; with ribbon obverse- an Arabic inscription which reads- ABBAS HILMI THE SECOND; dated- 1314 AH (Anno Hegirae- 1897 AD) reverse- a trophy of arms- an oval shield bearing three stars and crescents in the centre surrounded by lances and flags; the whole is superimposed on two crossed rifles and cannons with a pyramid of six cannon balls; Arabic inscription below which reads- THE RECONQUEST OF THE SUDAN 1314 bars- ribbon- yellow with a broad blue stripe down the centre (symbolic of the Nile flowing through the desert) named on edge- 5120 (.) CORPL. J. ISHERWOOD. 2ND. L.F.
