English: War Medal 1939-45, part of set mounted on cardboard awarded to Major Iris Frazer, NZANS, WW2 cupronickel circular medal, 36mm diameter, plain straight non-swivelling suspender, with ribbon obverse- crowned head of King George VI, surrounded by the legend ‘GEORGIUS VI D- G- BR- OM- REX ET INDIAE- IMP-’ Reverse- A lion standing on a dragon with two heads, above are the dates 1939 and 1945 Ribbon- 32mm wide grosgrain ribbon, colours of red, blue and white, repeated in reverse and separated by a thin red band |

Notes | War Medal 1939-45 Major Iris Frazer, NZANS Major Iris Frazer, ARRC (1915-2001) New Zealand Army Nursing Service , Royal New Zealand Nursing Corps Iris Frazer trained at Waikato Hospital, graduating in 1940. She worked in hospitals at Opotiki, Kawakawa and Whangarei before joining the New Zealand Army Nursing Service in December 1944. During 1945 Iris served on HMS Maunganui and with 5 NZGH at Bari, Italy. She then joined 6 NZGH in Florence, and served with that unit in Japan from March to August 1946 when she returned to New Zealand. Over the next three years Iris worked in a number of hospitals in New Zealand and Australia before rejoining the Army in 1950 serving at various army camps, and finally becoming Matron at Papakura Camp Hospital in January 1960. Following her retirement from the Army Iris Frazer continued to tutor at civilian hospitals. Her medals include the Associate Royal Red Cross (awarded 1969), the New Zealand Service Medal 1946-49 Occupation of Japan, and the 1953 Coronation Medal. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
