English: The Italy Star, WW2 Awarded to NZ415296 Pilot Officer ES Doherty, WW2 bronze six pointed star 43mm diameter, ring suspender, with ribbon Obverse- In the centre the Royal cypher ‘GRI’ with ‘VI’ below. The cypher is surmounted by a crown on a circlet which bears the title of the star ‘THE ITALY STAR’ reverse- plain Ribbon- 32mm wide grosgrain ribbon, The Italian colours are represented on the ribbon by equal stripes of red, white, green, white, red.

Notes Italy Star NZ415296 Pilot Officer Eric Steele Doherty, WW2 Born 29 July 1922 in Gisborne, Eric Doherty was a student at the time of his enlistment with the RNZAF in September 1941. He served with - and with 242 Squadron in North Africa, Italy, Syria, Corsica Served- WW2- Fighter Command in North Africa, Middle East, Italy, England. Was credited with seven victories, others damaging many vehicles and ships destroyed or damaged. post-war- Territorial Forces. DFM DFC (US). Died in Australia in 1980
