Notes | New Zealand Medal (1860-1872) 1863-1866, New Zealand Wars Medal awarded to 269 Gnr Archibald Annett, C Battery, 4th Brigade, Royal Artillery. Archibald Annett was born in the parish of Ballymore, County Armagh, Ireland. He enlisted with the Royal Artillery in 1847, and served with the regiment until 1872. He served in South Africa, the Crimea (1854-55) and was on garrison duty in Australia before coming to New Zealand, circa 1863. He served in New Zealand with C Battery 4th Brigade between 1863 and 1865, and his medal claim recorded actions at Nukumaru and Waingongoro.He may have had his wife and family with him, as 15 women and 25 children left with the Brigade when it departed on 27th June 1866. Following his discharge from the Royal Artillery in 1872 his family joined him in New Zealand. He died on 1st January 1875 aged 47 years. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
