Notes Polar Medal 1904 Medal awarded to Charles Reginald Ford. Charles Reginald Ford (1880-1972) born in London joined the Royal Navy and served on several vessels. In 1901 he volunteered to serve of the Royal Geographic Society Expedition led by Robert Falcon Scott, serving as a steward and assistant to Captain Scott. He later returned to New Zealand where he married, and studied architecture. In 1923 he moved to Auckland and formed a partnership with WH Gummer (Gummer and Ford). He was a fellow of the Royal Society, and also became closely involved with the Auckland Museum, being appointed as Honorary Curator of English ceramics. Medal instituted by King Edward VII in 1904
