Summary
[edit]DescriptionMcmurdo sound southern cross usns.jpg |
English: Southern McMurdo Sound looking westward as seen from the freighter USNS Southern Cross at McMurdo Station. The prefabricated hut erected by the National Antarctic Discovery Expedition (1901-1904) adjacent to Winter Quarters Bay can be seen in the middleground. Explorer Robert Falcon Scott later used this hut for staging operations during his ill-fated expedition to the South Pole in 1911.
