Port Meadow, Oxford was the site of the statistical investigations of the distribution of Ranunculus bulbosus (buttercup) discussed in chapter 5.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The statistical investigation that McShane carried out in Port Meadow was used to illustrate how classical and statistical procedures complement one another. One of the conclusions he drew in *Randomness, Statistics, and Emergence* is that emergence and evolution are explained in terms of probabilities of emergence and probabilities of survival of recurrence-schemes.
