[edit]DescriptionMcPherson Ridge Gettysburg Hist Marker.jpg |
English: Photo taken on McPherson Ridge looking east down the Chambersburg Pike in the direction of Gettysburg. Seminary Ridge can be seen in the far background running north and south. Gen. Robert E. Lee established his headquarters on the north side of the Chambersburg Pike at its junction with Seminary Ridge.
The Gettysburg Campaign plaque shown in this photo reads as follows: "The Battle of Gettysburg began here on the morning of July 1, 1863 when Union cavalry scouts under Gen. Buford met Gen. Hill's army advancing from the west. Arrival of Gen. Ewell's army that afternoon drove Union troops south of the town." Source Robert Swanson |
