English: The McKay Apartments, once located at the Southeast corner of Pike and 7th Avenue. Designed by John Graham, Sr. it was built in 1914 as a family hotel by David McKay (1860-1930) and his wife Mathilde. McKay, an original Klondike prospector and later real estate developer would commit suicide in a wooded area north of Seattle in 1930. The McKay was demolished in 1986 for an expansion of the Washington State Convention Center, while the Eagles Building, the rear wall of which can be seen in the background, was preserved and built around. |
