Deutsch: Gemälde (schwarz-weiß Reproduktion) Max Liebermanns von Ernst Ludwig Kirchner 1926, "Max Liebermann in seinem Atelier", (Max Liebermann in His Studio), Gordon Nr. 840.
Eines von drei Bildern der Serie: 1.Thomas Mann im Anzug - mit Händen in den Hosentaschen im Jahre 1900 - in dem Jahr, in welchem er die Buddenbrooks schuf 2.Gerhart Hauptmann in gleicher Pose 1912 - in dem Jahr, in welchem er den Nobelpreis erhielt, 3.Max Liebermann in gleicher Pose 1926 - in dem Jahr von Ernst Ludwig Kirchner gemalt, in dem Thomas Mann den Nobelpreis für die Buddenbrooks erhielt. Kirchner, der für Davos steht, war zuvor Patient im Sanatorium von Dr. Oskar Kohnstamm, in dem der Roman 'Der Zauberberg' von Thomas Mann spielte. Lucius Griesebach analysiert Kirchners Begriff der Hieroglyphe. Er weist nach, dass dieser Begriff entgegen Kirchners Aussage bereits vor ihm von Max Liebermann in die Kunstgeschichte eingeführt worden war. Lucius Griesebach war der Enkel von Dr. Lucius Spengler. Dieser wiederum war der Sohn von Dr. Alexander Spengler, der das Sanatorium Schatzalp - eigentlich "Schutzalp" in Davos gründete. Grund = Die Gegenüberstellung dreier Bilder verweist auf Querbezüge zwischen Bildender Kunst und Literatur in dieser Zeit.
