Description
Italiano: Masseria Cippano Otranto
Deutsch: Masseria Cippano, südlich von Otranto, Beispiel eines der vielen befestigten salentischen Gutshöfe (masserie fortificante) auf der Halbinsel Salento im Süden Apuliens, die im 15. Jahrhundert entstanden. Sie sind eine architektonische Besonderheit dieser Landschaft und historisch begründet. Umgeben von hohen Trockensteinmauern mit einem turmartigen Gebäude sollten sie Schutz bieten vor den regelmäßigen Piratenüberfällen vom Meer. Steile Treppen zum turmartigen Zentralgebäude, meist zusätzlich durch eine Zugbrücke gesichert, sollten die Schutzwirkung erhöhen. Auch schuf man so wichtigen weitreichenden Ausblick nicht nur auf das nahe Meer.
