Notes New Zealand issue gas mask, WW2 (dated 1939) Belonged to 4-1632 Alexander C Martin, during his service with the RNVR during the early years of WW2. Martin also served as a Flying Officer with the RAF, and as a Marine Pilot with the Fleet Air Arm. He served during the Battle of the Atlantic and worked on convoys between Gibraltar and Britain (see notes on biog. file). Alexander Martin. moved to Auckland from Te Awamutu where family had farm when he was quite young. During WW2 he volunteered for service in NZ and was sent to England for training. He later received further training in Canada. Martin served as a Flying Officer with the RAF, and as a Marine Pilot with the Fleet Air Arm. He served during the Battle of the Atlantic and worked on convoys between Gibraltar and Britain (see notes on biog. file). He later transferred to the Royal New Zealand Navy Volunteer Reserve (RNZNVR) for service in the Pacific and was on HMS Victorious (an aircraft carrier) and flew against the Japanese.
