In the second group, those with apopulation of 50,000 to 100,000, Hgboken, N. J., has the low rateof yy against San Antonio, Tex., wrhich has the high rate of 246.In the cities with populations of 50,000 and under, Brookline,Mass., leads with the remarkably low rate of 32 against Austin,Tex., whose rate was 182. Though there has been a general decrease for all the cities since1910, the reports for 1916 compared with those of 1915 are not soencouraging. In cities of over 100,000 population there was anincrease in the number of baby deaths in 1916 of 1573. Thirteencities in this group showed reductions, New York City leadingwith a decrease of 1048, and infant mortality rate of 93, the low-est in the history of the city.
