As the averagecourse of Typhoid is from four to six weeks,it is scarcely to be wondered at that the patientusually emerges from the attack in a generallydevitalized condition. This is accounted fornot only by the general toxemia incident tothe bacillary infection, but also because thepractically exclusive milk diet generally adopt-ed deprives the patient of the natural foodiron which ordinarily maintains the ferricsufficiency of the blood. Some degree of ane-mia is therefore almost always in evidencewhen convalescence is first established.
