Dec 28,_- 96.
Dear Miss Longfellow.
I received the beautiful Xmas present you sent me this morning.
I thank you ever so much for it. My collar fits exactly. and the apron is just what I needed, again allow me to thank you for them.
Mrs. B. T. Washington sent them here to me.
I will now tell you why I am here.
I am here working for Dr Kilmer. I came here the 14th of June from school [p. 2] Mrs Washington sent me here to work. I was not able to stay in school I wanted to stay ever so much I had no one to help me so I had to leave school and find some work.
I like here very well. I am getting along nicely with my work. I hope some day I will be able to go back to school.
Once more allow me to thank you for thinking of me on Xmas. God will certainly bless ^you for thinking of a poor girl.
I will be so glad to hear from you often if it is [p. 3] only a short letter.
Yours Gratefully
Mary Louise Williamson
