Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Martello Tower near Dymchurch, Kent. This is Martello Tower no 23, just north of Dymchurch. The towers, 74 in all along the south coast, were built between 1805 and 1808 as fortifications against an invasion by Napoleon. They were based on a design copied from a tower in Corsica which the British found very difficult to attack.

Tower 23 was restored externally in the 1970s and later converted into a house, with a new roof extension. It was on the market in 2004 for £850,000. A lot of money for what, in the wrong weather, can be a very bleak spot!
