Belsunce | Cours Belsunce The Alcazar Lyrique opened on October 10, 1857. The hall is decorated in "Moorish fantasy" by its owner Stephen Demolins, referring to the Alhambra in Granada and can accommodate 2000 people. On June 25, 1873, a fire broke out and destroyed the theatre. The hall reopened four months later, the Alcazar undergoing renovation during which was created topped front door of a canopy, still visible today. The theatre is a converted into a movie theatre in the early 1930s. It faced its first bankruptcy in 1964 before closing its doors on August 9, 1966. On March 30, 2004, the Alcazar reopened as a public library with a regional focus to replace the St. Charles Library on the project of architects Adrien Fainsilber and Didier Rogeon. |
