Summary
[edit]DescriptionMarseille - Le Silo (16410761156).jpg |
Arenc | Quai du Lazaret Grain silo built in 1926 by engineer Vincent and Froment-Clavier and Zublin entrepreneurs. An additional distribution tower was built in 1950. A second identical tower on the dock existed, now destroyed. 130 meters long, 25 wide, 50 high, intended for the company Marseille Docks & Warehouses, it was then one of the largest and most modern silos in the world. It was abandoned in the late 80s and was nearly destroyed when the terminal building project took shape. In 2009, the first part of the building was inaugurated after being renovated by the SOGIMA into offices and parking on an area of 3500 m². In April 2011 it opened its doors entirely after a laborious rehabilitation into a modular auditorium with a capacity of 2200 seats. The architect Eric Castaldi stepped in to the private area and external; the City of Marseille has entrusted to the architect Roland Carta (C + T Architectures) the design of the auditorium. |
