Hôtel de Ville | Place Daviel The Hôtel-Dieu de Marseille was built from 1753 by the Marseille architect Claude-Henri-Jacques d'Aggeville on the plans of the king's architect Jacques Hardouin-Mansart Sagonne Mansart competed here by the size of the building, with the Pierre de Vigny's Hôtel-Dieu in Lille and especially Jacques-Germain Soufflot's in Lyon, his counterparts from the Royal Academy of Architecture. Hôtel-Dieu de Marseille is therefore one of the major achievements of the French hospital architecture of the 18th-Century. Barely half of the project was completed in 1788. The building was achieved in its current state from 1860 to 1866 by the architect of Marseille hospitals, Felix Blanchet. The new Hotel-Dieu was inaugurated by Napoleon III on November 15, 1866. Hôtel Dieu was transformed into 5-star luxury hotel, the Intercontinental Marseille - Hôtel Dieu, and was inaugurated on April 29, 2013. |
