[edit]DescriptionMarriage scene at Tetouan.jpg |
English: Wedding scene in Tetouan in the 19th century, arrival of the Novia box at home by Victor Eeckhout (1821-1879). The scene bears witness to the centuries-old marriage traditions in the city of Tetouan and other cities in Morocco, such as Fez, here we are talking about Tetouan ; the box, called "Bouja", is a sort of palanquin where the young bride enters, takes her place, which will be closed then lifted by the male members of her family, to transport the young bride from her father house to her husband's house. In Moroccan wedding traditions, similar to the principle of Amariya, the bride is elevated to the rank of queen, she must enjoy all the attention and be the center of attention. This tradition is done with all nobility. This is how the procession takes place in great fanfare ; men playing the trumpet, others in cavalry accompany the bride, like guards accompany their queen, they animate the procession with shots announcing the arrival of the young bride under cries of joy and applause which announce the reverie and the celebration. |
